Broad Peak, one of the 12th world’s highest mountains, stands proudly in the Karakoram Range.
It dominates the landscape along the Baltoro Glacier and is flanked by K2 and Gasherbrum Peaks.
In 1957, an Austrian team led by Marcus Schmuck conquered Broad Peak without supplemental oxygen or high-altitude porters.
The climb involves ascending via a rock gully to Camp 1 at 6000m, followed by a snow face to Camp 2 at 6400m.
The final camp sits at 7400m, from where the summit bid begins.
While not extremely steep, the remote setting makes this climb uniquely rewarding for both beginners and seasoned climbers.
Notably, new routes have been explored, including the South West Face and variations via the West Face.

Day 1Arrive Islamabad. Meet our staff at airport. They will bring you to the hotel.

Altitude: 540 meters
Our guide(s) will meet you at Islamabad International Airport and transfer you to the hotel.
Participants can relax and recover from their journey.
Pickup details: Look for guides with orange placards bearing our company logo and your name.
Provide flight details at least five days before arrival.
Guides will receive you at international arrivals gates unless you have a connecting flight within Pakistan.
After lunch and rest, our guide will brief you and collect remaining payments at our office, followed by dinner. Late arrivals will have briefing and payments managed in Skardu.

Day 2Guided sightseeing and shopping in Islamabad (508 metres / 1,667 ft.).

Pre-Expedition Briefing and Exploration of Islamabad

Altitude: At an elevation of 540 meters

The day begins with an informative briefing from the Department of Tourism, providing essential details and guidelines for the upcoming Gasherbrum I Expedition. This session is crucial for understanding the expectations and preparing mentally and logistically for the journey ahead.

Post-briefing, the group will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant city of Islamabad. The exploration will include indulging in traditional Pakistani cuisine, offering a taste of the rich culinary heritage of the region.

Accommodation: Comfortable twin-sharing rooms at Chateau Royale, Prestige Residence, or an equivalent standard partner hotel in Islamabad, subject to occupancy.

Meals: A full day’s meal plan is provided, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with tea/coffee and snacks to keep you energized throughout the day.

Day 3Islamabad to Skardu

Altitude: 2,498 meters
Participants will take a spectacular flight from Islamabad airport to Skardu airport.
If the clouds allow, you’ll be able to see the majestic Nanga Parbat during the flight.
After arriving in Skardu, the day is free for you to explore and enjoy.

Day 4Exploring Skardu

Altitude: 2,498 meters
After breakfast, participants will walk to the Kharpocho Fort in Skardu, situated atop a mountain. From there, you’ll enjoy a splendid view of the Indus River and the town of Skardu.
Additionally, participants have the option to take a tour to Sadpara Lake.
Afterward, you’ll have some free shopping time in Skardu Bazaar.
During sightseeing, our staff will handle any further government documentation required in Skardu. This process may take up to two days.
We’ve also allocated contingency days toward the end of the trek in case of any delays.

Day 5Skardu - Briefing at Department of Tourism. Final preparations. Hotel.

Location: Skardu, the gateway to the world’s towering peaks.
Activity: A comprehensive briefing at the Department of Tourism, where participants will receive vital information, safety protocols, and the expedition itinerary for the ascent of K2.
Preparations: Final equipment checks, securing necessary permits, and ensuring all gear is expedition-ready.
Accommodation: A comfortable stay at a local hotel, providing a restful environment for the night before the adventure begins.

This day is crucial for ensuring that all climbers are well-informed and prepared for the challenges ahead. It’s the moment to ask questions, clarify doubts, and make any last-minute adjustments to the plan. The excitement builds as the team anticipates the journey to one of the most challenging and revered mountains in the world.

Day 6 Drive by Jeep to Askole, a lovely little farming village. Camp. (3,039 metres / 9,970 feet).

The Starting Point of High-Altitude Adventures

Destination: Askole, a charming farming village nestled in the mountains.
Altitude: The village sits at an elevation of $3, 039 meters$ or 9,970 feet
Accommodation: Camping facilities provided for an overnight stay.

This segment of the itinerary marks the beginning of an extraordinary trekking experience. Askole is renowned as the last settlement before trekkers and climbers venture into the remote wilderness of the Karakoram range. It’s a place where traditional lifestyles are observed, and the serene environment sets the tone for the expedition ahead. Campers will spend the night under the stars, acclimatizing and preparing for the journey to come.

Day 7Trek to Jhola. (3,170 metres / 10,400 feet). We enter Karakoram National Park and trek past a slope filled with garnets and cross a lovely bridge.

Altitude: 3,015 meters
Our adventure kicks off as our team gathers early at the hotel.
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll load up the rugged 4×4 jeeps.
The bumpy, dusty drive will take us past Askole and onward to Jhula Camp—the gateway to the Central Karakoram National Park.
The journey from Skardu typically spans 7 to 10 hours, depending on road conditions. We’ll enjoy lunch en route.
Exciting news: As of 2021, the road extension into the national park allows us to start the trek directly from Jhula Camp, bypassing the hot, dusty road from Askole.
Upon arriving at Jhula in the late afternoon, we’ll settle into a permanent trekkers’ camp.
Keep in mind that if our permits aren’t ready, we might spend an extra day in Skardu (our well-planned buffer days come in handy!).
Note for 2023: Due to road damage, a trek from Askole to Jhula is now necessary.
Here are the specifics:

- Jhula Camp elevation: 3,149 meters

Get ready for an unforgettable journey through stunning landscapes!

Day 8Trek to Paiyu. (3,666 metres / 12,028 feet). Trek to this famous forest in the Baltoro Valley.

Altitude: 3,418 meters
Distance: 19.8 kilometers
Time: 6-7 hours

On this leg of the journey:

Participants will follow the Braldu gorge, tracing the path along the bank of the Braldu River.
The awe-inspiring Trango Tower and Cathedral Peak will come into view.
Be cautious of possible sunburns due to the dry and hot walking conditions.
Numerous streams from glaciers flow down into the valley, and depending on water levels, participants may need to use river crossing shoes.
On a clear day, you’ll catch sight of the snout of Baltoro Glacier.
The day concludes as participants climb away from the river to camp at Paiju, the last campsite where you’ll encounter trees for a while.

Day 9Rest Day in Paiyu. On this day, porters will bake all of their bread for the upcoming trek.

Altitude: 3,418 meters

On this day, participants will remain at Paiju Camp for acclimatization and much-needed rest. While the porters focus on baking bread for the upcoming week on the glacier, participants can take an acclimatization walk toward the base camp of Paiju Peak. It’s a valuable opportunity to adjust to the altitude and soak in the stunning surroundings.

Day 10Trek to Khuburtse. (3,800 metres / 12,467 feet). a fabulous campsite near a lake on the edge of the Baltoro Glacier.

Altitude: 3,788 meters

Distance: 14.7 kilometers

Time: 5-7 hours

On this challenging day, the terrain becomes rugged, but the scenery transforms into sheer magnificence as you step onto the snout of the Baltoro Glacier. The trail involves continuous ups and downs on the glacial moraine. While the path is generally safe, it’s crucial to exercise caution at all times.

As you forge ahead, prepare to be awestruck by the breathtaking views. Behold the majestic Trango Tower and the striking Uli Biaho. The journey requires crossing the glacier to reach Liligo. From there, follow a rocky trail along the edge of the Baltoro or sometimes venture toward Khoburtse, where your camp awaits.

Day 11 Trek to Urdukas. (3,950 metres / 12,959 feet). Camp amongst grass and lovely giant boulders, with amazing views of the Great Trango Towers.

Altitude: 3,905 meters

Distance: 6.4 kilometers

Time: 4-6 hours

As you continue your trek, the Trango Towers gradually come into view after traversing two small glaciers. Your next stop for the night will be Urdukas, situated near the army camp. The camp rests 100 meters above the glacier.

Day 12Goro II. (4,300 metres / 14,108 feet). Camp on the flat stones on the surface of the Baltoro Glacier with lovely views of the mightiest peaks all around, like Masherbrum, Cathedral, etcetera.

Altitude: 4,285 meters

Distance: 11.9 kilometers

Time: 6-8 hours

During this leg of the K2 base camp trek, participants will find themselves walking in the heart of the glacier. The medial moraine will guide their path, and to the south, they’ll be treated to breathtaking views of Masherbrum (7,821 meters). The journey involves navigating rocky moraines, with participants ascending and descending as they pass by massive ice seracs.

Day 13Concordia. (4,550 metres / 14,928 feet). Concordia must be the most famous campsite in all the Karkakoram. Incredible views of K2, Mitre Peak, Gasherbrum 4, and many more.

Altitude: 4,512 meters

Distance: 11.7 kilometers

Time: 5-7 hours

As the K2 base camp trek progresses, participants will ascend the moraine, their footsteps unwavering. Along the way, a grand spectacle unfolds—the emergence of towering snow-capped peaks. Among them, the mighty K2 stands as the pinnacle of this journey, a moment to cherish.

Day 14Trek to Shahring

Trek from Concordia to Shahring.
Duration: Approximately 5-6 hours.
Distance: About 14 kilometers.
Altitude loss: Minimal.
Accommodation: Camping in Shahring.

Day 14-38 Ascent of Gasherbrum II

Altitude: Ascending to $5, 150 meters$

Trek Distance: Covering $8.08 kilometers$
Expedition Duration: Spanning 4 weeks

Our ascent to the majestic mountain commences today, with a planned four-week journey ahead. We’ve scheduled extra days to ensure we can capitalize on optimal weather conditions. The K2 Travel Hub Team will be responsible for establishing the base camp and providing continuous support throughout the expedition’s duration.

Accommodation: We offer comfortable twin-sharing dome tents for rest (visual references available). Meals: Nutritious and energizing meals including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, complemented by snacks (dry fruits and chocolates) for the trek. Evening meals begin with a warming appetizer (soup or fried snacks), and end with a sweet dessert or fresh fruits.

Day 39Trek back to Concordia and rest

Altitude: Descending to

Return Distance: A trek of 11.7 kilometers
Estimated Time: Approximately 5 to 7 hours

Following the triumphant completion of the Gasherbrum I Expedition, we will make our way back to Concordia. This marks a reflective journey, retracing the paths of our ascent.

Accommodation: Rest and reflection in twin-sharing dome tents (images provided for reference).

Meals: Sustenance for the journey includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with snacks (dry fruits and chocolates) to fuel the trek. Pre-dinner appetizers (soup or fried snacks) and post-dinner desserts or fruits will be served to replenish and celebrate the day’s achievements.

Day 40 Trek to Ali Camp

GPS Coordinates Overview:

Altitude: Elevated at 4,500 meters
Distance: A journey of 14.7 kilometers
Trek Time: Estimated at 5 to 6 hours

Adventurers will embark on a less trodden path, taking necessary detours to navigate around crevasses. The terrain will consist of rugged ice to ensure better footing compared to slippery surfaces. In snowy conditions, all participants and porters will be securely connected by ropes and equipped with crampons for enhanced safety during the trek.

Upon completion of the 5-6 hour hike, the group will establish their base at Ali Camp—a site named in honor of a local porter renowned for being the first to traverse the Gondogoro La Pass.

Accommodation: Comfortable twin-sharing dome tents are provided for rest (refer to accompanying images).

Meals: The expedition includes all-day dining with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus snacks (dry fruits and chocolates) for the trek. Each evening features an appetizer (soup or fried snacks) before dinner, and a sweet dessert or fresh fruits to finish.

Day 41Trek down the Gondogoro Valley to Saitcho (3,350 metres / 10,991 ft.)

Altitude: Reaching up to 5,585 meters
Distance: Spanning 19.8 kilometers
Duration: Estimated at 5 to 7 hours

At the break of dawn, participants will rise at 2 am for an early start. Once equipped and fortified with breakfast, the group, tethered together, will set off towards the Gondogoro La base. Our support crew will be on standby to secure ropes and assist with gear as needed. The ascent to Gondogoro La Pass is a 3-hour endeavor, culminating in a panoramic vista of the Baltoro region’s towering 8000ers: K2, G1, Broad Peak, and G2.

The descent will be carefully managed with fixed ropes, and the use of crampons will be crucial for everyone’s safety. This part of the journey offers views of the striking Laila Peak, standing at 6,096 meters, along with other notable peaks in the vicinity.

Extra caution is imperative during the descent to prevent dislodging stones that could endanger the team. Once past the steep slopes, the trail eases as it leads onto the moraine. The day’s camp will be established at Khuispang, the confluence of the Gondogoro and Trinity Glaciers, at an altitude of 4,600 meters.

Accommodation: Campers will be housed in twin-sharing dome tents (visual references available).

Meals: The day’s nourishment includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner, supplemented with snacks (dry fruits and chocolates) for the trek. Evenings will feature an appetizer (soup or fried snacks) before dinner, and a dessert or fruits to round off the meal.

Day 42Trek to Saicho

Descent to Saicho: A Journey Through Hushe Valley

Altitude: Descending to an elevation of 3,350 meters
Trek Distance: A 20 km journey through changing landscapes
Trek Duration: Approximately 5 to 7 hours

As the participants make their way down, the technical climbing gear will be stowed away, marking the transition from a challenging descent to a more leisurely trek. The rugged high-altitude terrain gives way to the verdant expanses of Hushe Valley.

Post-lunch, the trek resumes towards the periphery of the Gondogoro Glacier. Here, a trail emerges, guiding the hikers through a picturesque valley adorned with rhubarb and wild grass.

The path diverges at the valley’s end, offering two distinct routes. The chosen path, determined by the guide in consultation with the local porters, will be the one most frequently traversed.

The trek eases as the separate paths converge, revealing stone huts constructed by local herders and settlers. This day offers a glimpse into the region’s settlements and the relief of lower altitudes, accompanied by the presence of grand trees. The campsite at Saicho, set amidst sandy patches and sparse grass, is caressed by the melody of flowing glacial streams.

Accommodation: Campers will rest in twin-sharing dome tents.

Meals: A full day’s sustenance with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus snacks for the trek. Evenings will be welcomed with an appetizer before dinner, and sweetened with dessert or fruits thereafter.

Day 43Trek to Hushe and drive to Skardu Town

Final Leg of the Gondogoro La Trek: Return to Civilization

Altitude: A descent to $2, 498 meters$
Journey: A 20 km trek followed by a 127 km drive
Duration: 5-7 hours of trekking and 6 hours of driving

On this concluding day, participants will embark on a shorter trek of 3-4 hours, following the streams fed by the glacier meltwaters of Charakusa, Ailling, Masherbrum, and Gondogoro Glaciers. Signs of habitation will become evident as they pass by shelters, fields, and the vibrant life of the valleys.

In Hushe village, trekkers will witness the unique two-story shelters, with the ground floor dedicated to cattle and the upper floor serving as the family’s living space. After setting up camp, there will be opportunities to explore the enchanting Hushe Valley and engage with its warm inhabitants. This marks the final camping night of the Gondogoro La Trek.

The journey from Hushe to Skardu will unveil the picturesque hamlets of Hushe Valley. A notable crossing is the suspension bridge over the Shyok River, which originates from Ladakh, India. This modern bridge replaced the traditional air-filled goat skin rafts once used for river crossings and was constructed in the 1990s.

The drive from Khaplu to Skardu is smooth, with the road hugging the Shayok River until it meets the mighty Indus. The final stretch along the Indus River takes about 4 hours, leading to Skardu. Here, participants can indulge in long-missed comforts, such as a hot shower and a hearty meal.

Accommodation: Comfortable twin-sharing rooms at the Concordia Motel, Mountain Lodge, or an equivalent standard partner hotel in Skardu, subject to availability. Meals: A complete meal plan including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus tea/coffee and snacks throughout the day.

Day 44 Fly to Islamabad

Journey from Skardu to Islamabad: Flight Itinerary and Contingency Plans

Altitude: Departure from an elevation of 538 meters

Participants will board a flight from Skardu Airport to Islamabad Airport. Upon arrival, a comfortable stay at a hotel in Islamabad will provide ample time for relaxation and reflection on the journey.

Note on Flights: Domestic flights may be subject to cancellation due to adverse weather conditions. In such an event, an alternative travel plan involves an overland journey to Chilas, where an overnight stay will be arranged. This drive typically spans eight to ten hours.

Accommodation: Lodging in twin-sharing rooms at Chateau Royale, Prestige Residence, or a partner hotel of equivalent standard in Islamabad, depending on room availability.
